Having gained his diploma as violinist at the Naples conservatory, S.Pietro a Majella, Mercurio continues his academic career studying composition. His artistic abilities express themselves in a variety of musical genres and he works as violinist at Naples's San Carlo theatre.
This intense period dedicated to classical music is followed by an especially rewarding and creative one working together with the musicologist Roberto De Simone. He contributes to the album "Aggio girato il munno" by the group "La Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare", with whom he continues to collaborate for a full eight years.
In this period his involvement in numerous world wide tours gives him the opportunity to participate in important international reviews and festivals, along side some of the most respected musicians of our times, an experience which adds considerably to the development of his artistic personality. The diverse musical cultures with which he comes into contact, provide Mercurio with ever growing inspiration. He absorbs them all, living them intensely, like enchanted moments, which boost his creative and emotional capacities. He becomes increasingly aware that his is the type of musicality and originality expressed by Neapolitan folk music.
For a number of years now he has been involved, together with his group "Vito Mercurio e Famiglia d'Arte" in the communication and promotion of the authentic values of the traditional music of the Campania region.
